Other Information

THE SPA HOTEL-Hotel Casa Santo Domingo in Antigua, Guatemala, is a distinctive five-star luxury hotel housed within a beautifully restored convent following destruction during an earthquake in 1773. Amidst its serene gardens, you'll find lovely accommodations and an impressive on-site museum brimming with captivating artifacts and historical treasures. Our rooms offer direct access to the spa area, where we can enjoy a more intimate experience, complete with a beautiful pool, jacuzzis, wet and dry saunas, and a sunbathing area.

MEALS-The rich culinary scene in Antigua, Guatemala is a delicious fusion of traditional Guatemalan flavors and international influences. For dinner, we will visit a few of the many rooftop and garden restaurants for a unique dining experience surrounded by stunning views or lush greenery.

GROUP SIZE-There is a minimum of 3 couples and a maximum of 7 couples.

TRIP INSURANCE-It is required that each person have their own travel insurance policy with adequate medical coverage and emergency evacuation. Recommendation for an agent is available upon request or you can acquire your own policy.

SAFETY-Your safety is a top priority. The regions we visit—Antigua, Lake Atitlán, and the Pacaya Volcano hike—are considered among the safest and most traveler-friendly areas in Guatemala.

Antigua is a charming and peaceful colonial city known for its vibrant culture and welcoming atmosphere. It has a much lower crime rate than Guatemala City and is a popular destination for international visitors, including solo travelers and families.

From the moment you arrive, you’ll be in good hands. A trusted driver will meet you at the Guatemala City airport and take you directly to our centrally located five-star hotel in Antigua. All excursions—whether to Lake Atitlán or to hike Pacaya Volcano—are conducted with private transportation and experienced local guides.

While the U.S. State Department gives Guatemala an overall Level 3 rating (“Reconsider Travel”), this is largely due to conditions in regions we do not visit. As with any international travel, we encourage general awareness and common-sense precautions—but the locations on our itinerary are well-traveled and widely regarded as safe for visitors.

I’ve personally visited all of these areas many times and felt very comfortable throughout. Many of our guests have also shared that they felt secure and well cared for during the trip.

WATER-Please note that tap water in Guatemala is unsafe for visitors to drink. Bottled water is recommended for drinking and brushing your teeth. If you prefer to bring your water bottle, I can offer recommendations for options with built-in filters.

CME and CE.-There are no live lectures on this adventure. CME is available through two options you can read about here

“The big question is whether you’re going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure.”
-Joseph Campbell

Hi, I'm Stacey Funt, a physician, certified health coach, lifelong global adventure traveler, and the founder of LH Adventure Travel. I first visited Antigua, Guatemala, over 30 years ago and was immediately captivated by its cobblestone streets, lush garden oases behind beautifully carved wooden doors, and charming rooftop restaurants with stunning volcano views. The authentic atmosphere, laid-back vibe, and rich culture have kept me coming back ever since. It’s the perfect backdrop for an active and flexible itinerary that also leaves plenty of time for relaxation and self-care, which is exactly what we aim for on this trip. This will be my fourth time leading a group here, and it’s always a joy to watch each guest fall in love with the country.

Hi, I'm Rich Slesinski, a physics teacher and Stacey's husband. Over the years, I've trekked with Stacey all over the globe, and I take off each summer to hike a section of the Appalachian Trail on my own. I’ve had the privilege of being on many group trips, and I’m really looking forward to co-leading this one with Stacey. Guatemala has been a part of our conversations for years, and I’m thrilled to finally experience it with all of you.
